ISAP (Integration Settlement and Adaptation Program) Counsellor
Full-Time (37.5 hrs per week)
Nature and Scope:
The Board/Executive leadership team of the YMCA of Windsor & Essex County shares a vision for the excellence and a
commitment to responsible stewardship as a member of the Canadian YMCA movement. The Settlement Counsellor is a
member of the Settlement Services Department of the YMCA New Canadians' programs and responsible for assisting new
immigrants in their settlement and integration in the local community.
The program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Accountability:
The Settlement Counsellor is accountable for the direct delivery of services to clients including the appropriate administrative
procedures, as directed by the Settlement Services Coordinator, in accordance with the association mission and values, and
YMCA Canada SAM Standards.
All staff of the YMCA New Canadians' programs must demonstrate cultural awareness and understanding of issues of concern to
newcomers.
The ISAP Settlement Counsellor must demonstrate the following core competencies:

6. Philanthropy – Demonstrate a personal responsibility for the YMCA as a charity
Responsibilities:
Deliver settlement services to newcomers: services include intake, assessment, case management, documentation,
information and referrals, outreach, follow up and other duties as required
Develop and facilitate information and orientation sessions and materials for new immigrants and refugees
Assess the needs of newcomers; advising and/ or referring to other services, agencies or programs
Maintain and expand client base through outreach, which includes community visits, developing outreach materials and
promoting community networks
Recruit, train and supervise volunteers for the program
Plan and evaluate initiatives for the program
Compile statistical reports and records
Represent the agency on appropriate community networks focused on immigration issues and refugee status and work in
conjunction with other agencies and community groups to co-ordinate/facilitate the delivery of services
Perform other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
University degree in Social Work, Sociology, Political Science and/or any related area
Strong communication skills and well-developed presentation, interpersonal, organizational and group skills
Knowledge and familiarity with settlement issues facing new immigrants and refugees, community resources and support
available for immigrants and refugees; with a focus on the challenges faced by immigrant women
Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other co-workers and volunteers in a culturally diverse environment
Computer-literate
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
Ability to speak, read and write Cantonese and Mandarin
Familiar with the Windsor & Essex County Chinese speaking communities
